Ingredients
Chocolate Mixture
- 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of kosher salt
Dairy
- ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Garnishes (optional)
- Cocoa powder
- Whipped cream
Instructions
- Prepare containers: Place 4 to 6 small bowls, pots, or ramekins on a plate or baking pan to hold the dessert once blended.
- Mix ingredients in blender: Add chocolate chips, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and kosher salt into the blender container. Pulse several times to combine ingredients evenly. Remove the center cap of the blender lid and insert a small funnel into the opening to safely pour hot liquid.
- Heat cream: Pour the heavy cream into a microwave-safe bowl large enough to accommodate bubbling. Heat on high power in the microwave for about 1½ minutes or until the cream is vigorously boiling.
- Blend hot cream into mixture: Set blender speed to low. Slowly pour the hot cream through the funnel into the blender while blending gently. Once all the cream is added, secure the funnel and increase the blender speed to high. Blend for 1 full minute until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
- Chill: Pour the chocolate custard into the prepared bowls or ramekins. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set and chill. The dessert can be made 2 to 3 days in advance; cover with plastic wrap when storing in the refrigerator.
- Serve: Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a light dusting of cocoa powder. Optionally, add a mint sprig for a fresh touch before serving.
Notes
- Use a blender that can handle hot liquids safely to avoid damage or accidents.
- Ensure the cream is boiling vigorously before adding to the blender to help create the custard consistency.
- Cover with plastic wrap while chilling to prevent a skin from forming on top.
- Optionally, substitute half and half for heavy cream for a slightly lighter version.
- For best texture and flavor, consume within 2-3 days of preparation.
