Description
A simple and delicious pan-fried tempeh recipe using just three ingredients, perfect for adding a crispy, savory protein boost to your meals in under 10 minutes.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 200g package tempeh
- 2½ tbsp unflavoured oil (avocado oil recommended, or any high heat oil)
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare tempeh: Cut the tempeh into small flat rectangles or thin slices about ¾ cm thick to ensure even cooking and maximum crispiness.
- Heat oil in pan: Warm a large frying pan over medium heat and add half of the oil. Wait until the oil is hot before adding the tempeh.
- First side frying: Place the tempeh pieces flat side down in the pan, season lightly with salt, and pan-fry for about 3 minutes until the underside turns golden brown.
- Flip and add more oil: Flip the tempeh pieces over and add the remaining oil. Continue frying for another 2-3 minutes until the other side is also golden brown and cooked through.
- Season and serve: Taste the tempeh and add more salt if needed. Ensure all sides are nicely browned. Serve hot as a protein addition to noodles, stir fries, salads, or whole grains. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use a high smoke point oil such as avocado, grapeseed, or sunflower oil for best results.
- Tempeh can be marinated before frying for added flavor, but this recipe shines with its simplicity and seasoning.
- Cutting tempeh into thin slices helps it cook evenly and develop a crisp exterior.
- This recipe works well as a quick protein option for vegan and vegetarian diets.
