Ingredients
Roasted Garlic
- 8-10 garlic cloves, peeled
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Pinch of salt
Garlic Butter Custard
- ½ cup butter, melted (113g)
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk (60g)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp paprika
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
Bread and Toppings
- 12 King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sheet Rolls, kept in full sheet form (or substitute with a French baguette of similar size)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Chopped parsley and chili flakes for garnish
Instructions
- Roast Garlic: Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). In a mini oven-safe pot or dish, mix peeled garlic cloves with olive oil and a pinch of salt. Cover with a lid or foil and bake for about 20 minutes until the garlic is soft and golden. Remove from oven and mash the roasted garlic with a fork. Set aside.
- Prepare Garlic Butter Custard: In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed roasted garlic, melted butter, egg, milk, salt, paprika, and chopped fresh parsley. Whisk thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Prepare Bread: Lower oven temperature to 350°F (177°C). Using a sharp knife, carefully slice the sheet of Hawaiian rolls into two halves horizontally, keeping the rolls intact but separated. Place halves on a large baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until the bread is lightly golden and crispy.
- Coat Bread with Custard: Transfer the garlic butter custard to a larger pan or shallow dish. Carefully dip each baked bread half into the custard, coating all sides well.
- Bake Bread with Custard: Return the coated bread halves to the baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 15-18 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Add Cheese and Broil: Sprinkle evenly 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese over the bread. Switch oven to broil/grill setting and broil for about 5 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and garnish with chopped fresh parsley and chili flakes. Slice into individual servings and serve warm. Enjoy your cheesy garlic bread!
