Description
A quick and delightful dessert featuring caramelized bananas with a crisp brulee sugar topping, combining the sweetness of fried bananas with the rich flavor of caramelized sugar using a blowtorch.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 banana
- 1 teaspoon oil (vegetable or canola)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the banana: Cut the banana in half lengthwise, then cut each half into two pieces to yield 4 banana slices.
- Fry the banana slices: Heat a nonstick pan over medium-high heat and add a teaspoon of oil. Place the banana slices flat-side down in the pan and fry them for about one minute, until they are golden brown on the cooked side. Transfer the fried banana slices to a heat-resistant pan or stainless steel pan with the cooked side facing up.
- Add sugar: Evenly spoon the tablespoon of sugar over the bananas, making sure the entire surface is covered without any blank spots.
- Caramelize the sugar: Using a kitchen blowtorch, carefully sear the sugar until it melts and caramelizes into a crispy, golden-brown brulee crust. Keep the flame moving at all times to avoid burning, as the sugar caramelizes quickly.
Notes
- Use a nonstick pan to prevent the bananas from sticking during frying.
- If you don’t have a blowtorch, you can use the broiler in your oven, but watch closely to avoid burning the sugar.
- Serve immediately for the best texture of crispy sugar and soft banana.
- Adjust sugar amount to taste if you prefer a less sweet dessert.
