Ingredients
French Toast Mixture
- 4 large eggs
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- ½ cup milk
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 brioche loaf, sliced
Sauce
- ¾ cup salted butter
- 1 ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Toppings
- 2 Tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 cup mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
Instructions
- Whisk: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter an 8×10 inch casserole or baking dish thoroughly. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, milk, and cinnamon until fully combined.
- Dip: Quickly dip each brioche slice into the egg mixture. Since brioche absorbs liquid rapidly, do not soak; a quick coat is sufficient. Arrange the dipped slices neatly in the prepared baking dish.
- Prepare Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine salted butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir and melt the ingredients until the mixture is creamy and just begins to bubble, approximately 6-8 minutes. Avoid cooking too long to prevent the sauce from becoming a hard caramel.
- Pour Sauce: Pour the warm butter and brown sugar sauce evenly over the dipped brioche slices in the baking dish.
- Bake: Place the baking dish uncovered on top of a cookie sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the baked French toast to cool for 10-15 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and top with mixed berries before serving.
Notes
- Do not soak brioche slices too long in the egg mixture to prevent sogginess; a quick dip is ideal.
- Placing the baking dish on a cookie sheet during baking helps catch any spills caused by bubbling sauce.
- Use fresh or frozen mixed berries according to availability for a burst of color and flavor.
