Description

This easy and delightful Apple Tart recipe features flaky puff pastry topped with thinly sliced apples, a spiced brown sugar mixture, and a glossy apricot jam glaze. Perfect as a dessert or sweet snack, these individual tarts bake quickly and offer a beautiful golden crust with warm autumn flavors.

Ingredients

Pastry

  • 1 pre-made package of thawed frozen puff pastry

Fruit Filling

  • 2 apples of choice, thinly sliced (Gala apples recommended)

Spice and Sugar Mix

  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Glaze and Finish

  • ¼ cup apricot jam
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Spice Mix: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). In a small bowl, whisk together the cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt until well combined to create a flavorful sugar mixture.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Working with one sheet of thawed puff pastry at a time, lightly roll it out using a rolling pin to smooth the surface. Cut each sheet into 6 equal rectangular pieces for individual tarts.
  3. Assemble the Tarts: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the 6 puff pastry pieces evenly spaced. Spread 1 tablespoon of apricot jam in the center of each pastry. Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the jam, then layer the thinly sliced apples on top, finishing with another light sprinkle of the sugar mix to enhance flavor.
  4. Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg thoroughly. Brush the edges of each puff pastry with the egg wash to promote an attractive golden brown color during baking.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the tarts for 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown. If baking multiple batches, repeat with the next batch and bake for the same duration.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the tarts from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on the baking sheet. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy your crispy, sweet apple tarts.

Notes

  • You can use any variety of apples, but sweeter ones like Gala or Fuji work well for balance with the cinnamon sugar.
  • Ensure puff pastry is properly thawed before rolling to avoid cracking.
  • For a shiny glaze, warm the apricot jam slightly before spreading if you prefer to glaze after baking.
  • Use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and facilitate easy clean-up.
  • These tarts can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, best enjoyed fresh.
