Description

These Air Fryer Churro Bites are a deliciously crispy and naturally vegan treat, perfect for a quick dessert or snack. Made with a simple dough and coated in cinnamon sugar, they offer the classic churro flavor with a healthier air-fried twist.

Ingredients

Churro Dough

  • 150 ml Water (1/2 cup + 2 tbsp)
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp White Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Canola Oil
  • 60 grams All-Purpose Flour (1/2 cup)

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 100 grams White Sugar (1/2 cup)
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prep: Gather all ingredients and equipment needed for this recipe. The churro dough comes together quickly so preparation prior to starting will make the process easier.
  2. Make the Churro Dough: In a small saucepan, combine 150 ml water, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tbsp white sugar, and 1 tbsp canola oil. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, stirring with a wooden spoon to dissolve sugar and salt completely. Remove from heat and immediately stir in 60 grams all-purpose flour until the dough forms a smooth ball. Allow dough to cool for 10 minutes.
  3. Prepare for Piping: Fit a piping bag with a closed star nozzle (such as a 2D tip). Transfer the churro dough into the piping bag and twist to secure the end. Line a baking tray with parchment paper for piping churro bites.
  4. Pipe Churro Bites: Pipe approximately 2-inch lengths of dough onto the parchment paper. Use scissors to cut the dough at the base after each piece.
  5. Preheat Air Fryer: Set the air fryer temperature to 360°F (182°C) and preheat for 2 minutes.
  6. Air Fry Churro Bites – Batch 1: Place half of the churro bites into the air fryer basket ensuring space between each for air circulation. Lightly spray the bites with cooking oil. Fry for 10 minutes, flipping the bites halfway through at 5 minutes to ensure even cooking. The churros should be golden and crispy on the outside while slightly soft inside.
  7. Make Cinnamon Sugar Coating: While the first batch is frying, mix 100 grams white sugar with 1 tsp ground cinnamon in a bowl.
  8. Coat First Batch: Once the first batch is cooked, immediately toss the warm churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.
  9. Air Fry Churro Bites – Batch 2: Repeat the frying process with the remaining churro bites as previously described. Toss cooked bites with cinnamon sugar as done with the first batch.
  10. Serve: Serve the churro bites warm, optionally paired with a simple 3-ingredient caramel sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Ensure to flip the churro bites halfway during air frying to achieve even crispness.
  • Use a closed star piping tip to get the traditional churro ridges on the bites.
  • The recipe makes about 18 bite-sized churros, perfect for sharing or a party snack.
  • No additional oil is needed for coating after frying as the air frying method keeps them light and crispy.
  • Pair with caramel sauce or your favorite dipping sauce for an indulgent treat.
