Description

This 30-Minute Ground Beef Stroganoff is a comforting and creamy dish featuring tender egg noodles tossed in a rich beef and sour cream sauce. Quick to prepare and perfect for weeknight dinners, it combines browned ground beef with a smooth, flavorful sauce made from a homemade roux, beef broth, and milk. Seasoned with garlic and onion powder, it’s a satisfying and hearty meal everyone will love.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 6 ounces Egg Noodles

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound Ground Beef

Sauce

  • ¼ cup Butter
  • ¼ cup Flour
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 ¼ cups Milk
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ cup Sour Cream

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles: Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to the package directions. Once cooked, drain and set them aside for later.
  2. Brown the ground beef: While the noodles are cooking, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until fully browned and no pink remains, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat and transfer the beef to a plate. Set aside.
  3. Make the roux: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until it forms a smooth roux and lightly bubbles.
  4. Add beef broth: Gradually pour the beef broth into the roux while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens, around 3-4 minutes.
  5. Incorporate milk and thicken sauce: Slowly whisk in the milk, continuing to stir over medium heat. Cook until the sauce thickens again, about 5-7 minutes, resulting in a smooth and creamy consistency.
  6. Season the sauce: Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt, ensuring the seasonings are evenly distributed through the sauce.
  7. Combine noodles and beef: Reduce the heat to low and add the cooked egg noodles and browned ground beef to the skillet. Stir to combine and heat through evenly.
  8. Finish with sour cream: Gently stir in the sour cream until fully incorporated into the sauce, adding richness and a tangy flavor.
  9. Serve: Serve the stroganoff hot, paired with your choice of vegetables or garlic toast for a wholesome meal.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, reduce the milk slightly or cook the sauce a bit longer to achieve desired consistency.
  • Use low-fat sour cream to reduce fat content while keeping creaminess.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Fresh herbs like parsley can be added as a garnish for added color and flavor.
  • Use gluten-free flour and noodles to make this dish gluten-free if needed.
