Description

This quick and flavorful 10 Minute Honey Garlic Shrimp recipe combines succulent shrimp with a sweet and savory honey-garlic sauce, enhanced by a touch of ginger and optional chili flakes. Perfect for a speedy weeknight meal or an impressive starter, it’s ready in just 10 minutes and serves four.

Ingredients

Shrimp Marinade

  • 450g / 1lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Sauce and Cooking

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste or grated ginger
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional)

Garnish

  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Shrimp: In a medium bowl, combine the light soy sauce and cornstarch. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp and toss well to coat. This velveting technique helps keep the shrimp tender and juicy during cooking. Set aside until needed.
  2. Cook Garlic and Ginger: Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger paste, cooking for no longer than 30 seconds to release their aromas without burning.
  3. Cook Shrimp: Add the marinated shrimp to the pan and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side, depending on their size, until they turn pink and opaque.
  4. Add Honey and Chili: Pour in the honey and sprinkle with chili flakes if using. Toss the shrimp gently to coat evenly with the sauce, then immediately remove from heat to prevent burning the honey.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the sliced green onions over the shrimp for a fresh pop of flavor and color. Serve immediately over steamed rice or as a delicious starter.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, increase chili flakes or add fresh sliced chili.
  • Serve with steamed jasmine or basmati rice to soak up the flavorful sauce.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled for larger groups.
  • Ensure not to overcook shrimp to maintain their tenderness.
  • Velveting helps protect delicate shrimp, but can be skipped if short on time.
